Understøttende praksis, som for eksempel oral terapi, hud mod hud-pleje og ikke-næringsgivende sutning (NNS), er afgørende for spædbarnets udvikling og forhold til sine forældre.
Forskning har vist, at disse praksisser understøtter mælkemængder hos moderen og spædbarnets overgang fra sondeernæring til madning ved brystet, hvilket fører til højere ammefrekvenser og bedre helbred på længere sigt.1-3
