Optimizing milk removal: Understanding pumping curves and suction rhythms with Dr. Danielle Prime

Time to read: 1 min.

Brief Description:

This webinar will explore the foundations of pumping curves and patterns. Different infant suction rhythms and their roles in lactation will be discussed. The session will cover the science of infant sucking and the various elements of a suction curve that contribute to effective milk removal. Additionally, the translation of infant sucking research into breast pump technology will be described, along with an overview of how breast pump suction curves can be best utilized and personalized to optimize milk removal efficiency.

Objectives:

1. Explore the foundations of pumping curves and patterns and describe different infant suction rhythms and their roles in lactation.

2. Discuss the science of infant sucking, the elements of a suction curve that contribute to effective milk removal, and how this research translates into breast pump technology.

3. Provide practical tips for optimizing breast pump use, including mode and vacuum adjustments, to enhance milk removal efficiency and effectiveness.

Dr. Danielle Prime

Danielle completed her PhD in biochemistry in 2010 at The University of Western Australia under the guidance of Professor Peter Hartmann and the Human Lactation Research Group. Her research focuses on understanding the basic physiology of human lactation, particularly the milk ejection patterns of mothers and the dynamics of milk removal with a breast pump. With peer-reviewed publications on pumping methodologies, breast shields, and principles for maintaining or increasing milk production, Danielle aims to provide clinicians and mothers with evidence-based, practical knowledge.
