What are nursing pads?

Our Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads are an insert for your bra, helping absorb breast milk leakage during your breastfeeding journey. Medela disposable nursing pads will help save you multiple loads of extra laundry.

How do you use nursing pads?

To use our Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads, remove the paper on the back and place the pad in your bra with the sticky side facing the bra.

Why do you use nursing pads?

Almost 70% of mothers1 experience leaking breasts in the early weeks after birth. For many mothers, this decreases over time as milk supply and demand is set. Our Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads are designed to absorb and lock-in leaked milk that occurs during and between breastfeeding or pumping, to help protect your clothes.

Can you use a breastfeeding pad without a bra?

Nursing pads need to be stuck against something to help keep them in place. You can explore Medela’s collection of Nursing Bras at this link.

How many nursing pads will I need per week/day?

It’s recommended to change your Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads every 3-4 hours, for hygiene reasons. Mothers need approximately 6 pads per breast per day, so that’s 12 pads for both breasts.

Can I reuse/wash my nursing pad?

Our Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads are disposable, so they should be disposed of after usage. If you are interested in reusable pads, check out our washable bra pads.

How do breastfeeding pads stay in place?

There is a wide adhesive strip on the back of the pad which adheres to the material of your bra to keep the pads securely in place.

When I remove my nursing pad, I find that my nipple is stuck and it hurts when I pull it off. How do I keep it from sticking to my nipple?

Apply a small amount of Medela Purelan™ Lanolin Cream or Medela Organic Nipple Balm with every feed to avoid your skin adhering to the nursing pad.

How often do I need to change breastfeeding pads?

It’s recommended to change the Nursing Pad every 3-4 hours due to hygienic reasons.

Is it hygienic to wear the nursing pads overnight and will they leak?

Our Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads can also be worn overnight, however, it is recommended to change the pad if you leak every 3-4 hours when you feed your baby overnight.

How absorbent are Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads?

Our Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads absorb 50 times their own weight, meaning they can absorb more than 40ml of breast milk.

Are Medela’s Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads discreet?

Is it safe to wear nursing pads all day?

It’s safe to wear Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads all day, however, it’s recommended to change the pad every 3-4 hours due to hygienic reasons.

Can nursing pads cause skin irritation?

Are nursing pads recommended when you have sore nipples?

Our Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads can also be used in cases of nipple soreness. To help soothe sore or dry nipples, the Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads can be combined with our Medela Purelan™ Lanolin Cream or Medela Organic Nipple Balm.

Generally, it is important to change soiled pads frequently to keep the breast and nipple area as dry as possible to minimize potential problems such as infection or nipple soreness.

Please seek medical advice for sore or dry nipples, or if you are experiencing breast pain and signs of mastitis.

Are there any harmful chemicals in the nursing pads?

Your and your baby’s safety is always a top priority for us. The Ultra-breathable Nursing Pads do not contain any harmful chemicals and are dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic.
