Caesarean section the case CaesAid vacuum delivery cups vs forceps

Tid til at læse: 2 min.

Did you know

The fetal head at a Caesarean delivery is usually delivered through a generous skin incision and fundal pressure. Research suggests that:

  • Skin incision over 15 cm may cause ilioinguinal nerve damage.
  • Uterine incisions – head delivery intervals of > 90 sec. may result in fetal hypoxia.*

In a recent study* de Jong and Stolwijk evaluated the CaesAid vacuum cup, together with Medela´s electronic vacuum pump, on maternal and fetal outcomes in comparsion to the use of forceps at caesarean delivery. The objective was: asses whether the CaesAid vacuum cup shortens the incision-delivery interval vs. forceps and document any perioperative complications for mother and neonate.

The results of the study suggest that the CaesAid vacuum cup is a safe and efficient alternative to forceps to deliver the fetal head at the caesarean section.
